Imagine being a child in a world where learning about nutrition and healthy eating is engaging, interactive and just plain fun. Imagine a world where getting your hands dirty is not only permitted, but encouraged. Imagine a world where you use all five senses texplore nutritious, new-to-you foods that empower you to pitch in at dinnertime and maybe even teach /your mom and dad a thing or two.

Because of Purple Asparagus, that world exists in classrooms, farmers markets and other community spaces around Chicago, serving more than 5,000 local children and over 30 Chicagoland schools. With lessons like “A is for Apple-licious” and “I Yam What I Am,” Purple Asparagus’ students went on over 100 Delicious, Nutritious Adventures across Chicago.

In order to continue sharing this world with children and families across Chicago, we need your support. As we close out another successful year and look ahead to 2013, demand for programming is beyond our capacity. Last year, a number of programming requests were declined due to a lack of funds, and with your support we can expand our reach to empower more students and families.

2012 was an exciting year of growth for the organization. We moved into our first permanent office at the Platinum Leed Certified Green Exchange, and we were approved as one of Chicago Public Schools’ Food and Fitness Partners. Additionally, we began a partnership with the University of Chicago to conduct a large scale evaluation of our successes. But our programs still need your financial support!

HOW TO HELP:

When assessing your year-end giving, please consider joining us in our mission to educate more students and families about food that is good for the body and the planet. If you’re having trouble thinking of a holiday gift for that person who has everything, consider making a gift to Purple Asparagus.

Don’t forget to check your company’s corporate giving policy – many employers match funds donated – and remember all monetary gifts are 100% tax deductible. We remain committed to putting your donations to work effectively and efficiently. Click here to make a donation.

On behalf of our students and their families, as well as our staff, volunteers and board members, thank you for your interest and past contributions of time or treasure. This holiday season, as you gather together with your loved ones to eat, drink and be merry, please consider supporting Purple Asparagus and the children and families we serve.

Warmly,

Melissa Graham
